SUPPORTERS WANT A PRESIDENTIAL PARDON FOR WEN HO LEE

SAN FRANCISCO –  A reception will be held celebrating the success in obtaining over 15,000 signatures on petitions to President Bush seeking a presidential pardon for Dr. Wen Ho Lee.  The public is invited to attend the event to be held at:

Where: Fremont Library, Fukaya Room-B
            2400 Stevenson Blvd,  Fremont, Ca
When : Monday, August 12
            7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

"It is time for the president to apologize to Dr. Lee " said Cecilia Chang, founder of WenHoLee.org, "The Wen Ho Lee case stands as an example of a miscarriage of justice that should be remedied. Indeed, the unfair treatment of Wen Ho Lee shakes the confidence of the American public in the protections guaranteed by our United States Constitution.  This country has made plenty of mistakes in the past. The only way to avoid repeating similar mistakes is by issuing a presidential pardon to Dr. Lee. "

Congressman Mike Honda (D - San Jose) on a July 26, 2002 letter to President Bush co-signed by Congress member Pete Stark (D – Fremont) and Barbara Lee (D – Oakland)  stated “We are troubled by the many questions that were raised in the government's handling of Dr. Lee's case and urge that you review these petitions and give them due consideration”

“The treatment of Wen Ho Lee by the U.S. government is an injustice which must be righted. It is encouraging to see the hard work Cecilia Chang, founder of WenHoLee.org has done on this issue.” said Congressman George Miller (D – Concord)

"Dr. Lee, I tell you with great saddness that I feel I was led astray last December by the executive branch of our government through its Department of Justice, by its Federal Bureau of Investigation,  and by its United States attorney ... I sincerely apologize to you, Dr. Lee, for the unfair manner you were held in custody by the executive branch." said Judge Parker on September 13, 2000 right before Dr. Lee was released after nine months of solitary and punitive confinement in a Santa Fe Detention Center.

"The success of this petition drive is largely due to the efforts of many volunteer workers in different organizations, and the helpful coverage by many radio and newspaper stories" said Cecilia Chang.
