Dear Mr. President:
We are forwarding to your attention more than 15,000 names of people signing onto petitions calling for a presidential pardon for Dr. Wen Ho Lee.
As you may recall, Dr. Lee is the former Los Alamos lab weapons scientist who was imprisoned on charges that he took nuclear secrets and ended up pleading guilty, in September 2000, to only one felony count of mishandling classified information. After spending 278 days in jail, Dr. Lee was released with an apology from the federal judge trying his case.
We are troubled by the many questions that were raised in the government's handling of Dr. Lee's case and urge that you review these petitions and give them due consideration. Thank you for your consideration of this important matter.
Sincerely,
Mike Honda
Pete Stark
Barbara Lee
